Hollywood, CA (WFN) -- Playing a dead person can teach you how to really live.

That's what actor Callum Blue has learned while playing a grim reaper on the Showtime series, "Dead Like Me."

Blue says one of the first rules of acting is that villainous characters never think they are evil so he figures it's best to play dead people as being truly alive.

In his words, "People who are dead know what they're missing from life."

Blue -- who also plays the love interest in "Princess Diaries 2" -- says he never felt more alive than when playing a dead person.

Part of that is the script but Blue also credits the show's wardrobe crew who make sure that his character wears bright blues and pinks while dressing the so-called living characters in gray and black outfits.

There have been some difficulties in playing a dead person. Blue admits at first he was worried how his mom might react to seeing him as a stiff until he realized, "...she's seen me looking dead plenty of times when I come home after a night out."

"Dead Like Me" -- which also stars Mandy Patinkin and Jasmine Guy -- airs Sunday nights on Showtime.
