New York, NY -- The ultra-realistic plastic surgeries depicted on the FX TV drama "Nip/Tuck" make audiences squirm, but the cast has become downright immune to them after two seasons. Just ask Roma Maffia, who plays tough-talking anesthesiologist "Dr. Liz Cruz" on the show. She says after sitting through several "faux" scenes of liposuction using realistic prop body parts, she went to observe a real surgery for background research. Maffia initially thought she "wasn't gonna make it" through the patient's eyelid procedure, but found herself watching it with no heebie-jeebies whatsoever. And just six months ago, she went to the hospital with a pregnant friend who was delivering by caesarian section and sat there "fascinated" as the doctors cut through the woman's muscle tissue. Maffia says she never would have been able to stomach live surgery before "Nip/Tuck," but now she's at the point where she can't make a distinction between the plastic prosthetics of the show and the real human bodies in live operations.
