Yorba Linda, CA (WFN) -- Californians will soon get to enjoy a piece of The White House in their own backyards. This Saturday (Aug. 21) an exact replica of The White House's East Room will be unveiled at The Nixon Library in Yorba Linda, California. The newly built Katherine B. Loker Center is named after its benefactor, the daughter of the Star Kist Foods founder who was a friend President Richard Nixon and his wife, Pat Nixon, for 40 years. Designers of the new East Room have replicated the White House's ballroom to the finest detail including its chandeliers, golden silk draperies, marble fireplaces and the life-sized portraits of George and Martha Washington. The original East Room was built 175 years ago during Andrew Jackson's administration when the president turned what was previously Abigail Adams' laundry room into a ballroom. A spokesman for the library says seeing the replica is the only way many Americans will ever get to see the inside of the East Room.
