New York, NY -- A new eye-opening vision procedure may leave people thinking a wink is really a come-on. The so-called Verisyse surgery is done by inserting a permanent lens between the cornea and the iris, and it's about to be approved by the FDA, giving a new option to patients who are ineligible for LASIK surgery. Patients must stagger their procedure for each eye three months apart as required by FDA regulations. That may lead some folks to misinterpret a blinking patient who is merely testing the vision in their one good eye as a winking flirt. Ophthalmologist Dr. Gregory Pamel, the FDA's principal investigator for the procedure, admits a patient may "look a little odd walking down the street, testing their eye." Still, if confusion arises, Dr. Pamel recommends patients tell folks they're just testing their bionic eye.
