Nashville, TN (WFN) -- It's been 35 years since the original Woodstock music festival, but to rock photographer Henry Diltz, it still feels like yesterday. Diltz -- who was hired by festival producer Michael Lang to take pictures of the August 15-17 event -- spent two weeks documenting the Woodstock nation grow from an empty field of alfalfa to a surging mass of 400,000 hippies and rock stars. He witnessed Pete Townsend smacking Abbie Hoffman with his guitar and stood right in front of Jimi Hendrix during his legendary set. But, sadly, those experiences will have to remain just memories, because Diltz lost most of film he shot at Woodstock. Some of the historical shots were lost by editors at "Life" magazine, while others were misplaced by a film lab, but Diltz remains philosophical about the whole matter. In his words, "I'm free and mellow enough to not let it bother me." The photos which do remain in Diltz' collection will be featured in an August 21-31 Woodstock exhibition at Diltz's Morrison Hotel gallery in New York.
