Asheville, NC (WFN) -- A group of paranormal researchers has laid to rest notions that the Brown Mountain Light phenomenon is caused by something out of this world.

For at least a century, spherical-shaped lights, moving on and around Brown Mountain near Morganton, North Carolina, have been documented at night.

It was previously thought that the lights were caused by ghosts or UFOs or the sight was merely an optical illusion.

Researchers at the League of Energy Materialization and Unexplained phenomena Research (L.E.M.U.R.) say that after 10 years of research, they have reproduced the event in a plasma chamber.

They believe the findings prove that the lights are really a form of natural plasma, or charged particles.

Joshua Warren, L.E.M.U.R.'s president, believes the findings can lead to technological innovations in communications, transportation and non-lethal weaponry.

He says his group will release a full report in the near future.
