Chicago, IL (WFN) -- Things aren't so dandy for Yankee Doodle when it comes to love.

According to a poll conducted by romance author Sean K. Murphy, 15 percent of Americans say their biggest regret in life involves a love relationship.

Of those who are lovelorn, 36 percent wish they had chosen a different mate and 20 percent wish they had ended the relationship sooner.

Another 15 percent want to reunite with a lost love and 7 percent say they "would not have cared as much."

Finally, 28 percent of women wish they had dumped a lover compared to only 9 percent of men.
