	2004-08-04 - Weird News Wireless Flash News Luther Vandross Day In New York

New York, NY (WFN) -- Later today in New York, August 4 will be declared Luther Vandross Day. The Manhattan Borough President will make the proclamation, which follows on the heels of "Write a Love Letter to Luther" day which was held yesterday in Atlanta, Dallas, Los Angeles, Las Vegas, Raleigh, North Carolina, and Manhattan. That's where folks were encouraged to write letters to Vandross, who suffered a diabetic stroke in April of 2003. Luther Vandross Day is to recognize a new tribute album to Vandross, "Forever, For Always, For Luther," and raise awareness for diabetes. The CD showcases 11 jazz artists and a portion of the proceeds will go to diabetes research. In his younger days, Vandross is also widely known for inventing the "Luther Burger." Legend has it when he ran out of hamburger buns he improvised with two glazed donuts.
