Mankato, MN -- The folks in Mankato, Minnesota, have a reason to laugh. Their town has just been named the American city with the best sense of humor.

Mankato ranked No. 1 out of 205 cities in a humor index by Hallmark which measured citizens responses in three categories: Sources of humor for people; responses from individuals who think of themselves as "funny"; and sales of Shoebox greeting cards.

Mankato's residents earned a 76 on the humor score, 56 percent above the average. Slightly behind them are the people of Helena, Montana, at No. 2. Cheyenne, Wyoming, comes in No. 3.

The dubious title of "Least Humorous" is a four-way tie between the Texas cities of Harlingen, Weslaco, Brownsville and McAllen.
