Washington (WFN) -- Presidential hopeful John Kerry may be riding high from last night's speech, but an interpersonal communications expert says he still comes up short in the charisma quota. Ruth Sherman author of the new book "Get Them to See it Your Way, Right Away" (Mc Graw Hill) has been observing Kerry campaign trail up until last night at his nomination award speech and says he has a way to go to develop a charismatic campaign. In her opinion, Kerry needs to "fashion a message" so that people don't feel like they're being talked down to. Sherman says he's spent many years as a policy maker, but hasn't tailored his message to the campaign trail. Second, Kerry needs to use more rhetorical devices in his speeches like his running mate John Edwards did with "Hope is on the way." Lastly, she says he needs to emote more. Sherman says George W. Bush, despite his flaws, comes off having better charisma. In Sherman's words, "If you look and sound like regular folks, people will believe you are one of them."
