San Diego, CA (WFN) -- Real-life events are coloring the comic pages of an ex-Navy SEAL turned comic book author. Frank Lauria, who is displaying his comic book "SpecWar" at San Diego's International Comic-Con convention this weekend, says his comics are the only ones based on real world special operations from the military. He should know. He holds a masters degree in Navy Security Affairs and was a Navy SEAL for 20 years where he would brainstorm made-up scenarios for training. Lauria's experience has given him insight which he puts into his comics with eerie results. Issue No. 1 of "SpecWar" began with an attack on New York City and issue three's plot revolves around a war in Afghanistan. Both were completed before the 9-11 attacks ever happened. Issue seven deals with weapons of mass destruction in a Middle East country intended to be Iraq. In real life, no weapons were found, but in his story the weapons were smuggled out of the country on a boat. Lauria hopes the next page his comics take will be in the form of an animated series on a cable network like Spike TV.
