Blue Ridge, NC -- "The Dukes of Hazzard" were known as the "good old boys," but the actor who played Cooter is just a good old "Yellow Dog Democrat" in real life.

Ben Jones played Cooter the auto mechanic on the show, but in real life Jones served as a member of the U.S. House of Representatives from 1989 to 1993.

Jones says he knows both presidential candidates George W. Bush and John Kerry, but he supports Kerry.

In Cooter's opinion, Bush is "in over his head" and has "misled the country" over the Iraqi war. In his own words, "He's bumbled into a quagmire."

That wouldn't happen in Hazzard County says Jones. "It's a place where the good guy always wins and that's the way it should be."

Jones will be taking a trip down Hazzard County memory lane at the Dukes of Hazzard Dukefest 2004, which starts July 31 in Bristol, Tenn., and honors the 25th anniversary of the TV show.
