Army Olympians On Parade

Seale, AL (WFN) -- The U.S. Army will be sending some troops to Athens, Greece -- to compete in the Olympics, not topple the government.

Besides the sis-boom-rah the Army has been receiving for its work in the Iraqi war, the spotlight will be on a handful of soldiers participating in various events.

Seale, Alabama-based Sgt. Daryl Szarenski, who competed at the 2000 Sydney Games, will compete in Athens in Free Pistol and Air Pistol marksmanship events.

Szarenski says, with the war on, there's more emphasis on the military members attending the Games. Still, he says "we're not being treated any different."

In his words, "Other than the haircut, it's hard to tell any difference."

Szarenski says he's not as captivated with the hoopla of the Olympics this time either. "Our goal is to win medals," he says.
