Washington (WFN) -- A campaign to weed out marijuana planting is really seedy -- and may be helping the spread of pot. This time of year, drug officials in various states attempt to destroy wild marijuana plans before they can be harvested and sold. But Allen St. Pierre, a spokesman for the National Organization for the Reform of Marijuana Laws, says the pot is carried in mesh nets by helicopters for distances more than 30 miles and, in his words, "thousands of seeds fall through the nets to the ground and many of them take root." St. Pierre says most of the weed grown in the wild has very little THC, the chemical that makes you stoned. St. Pierre says the anti-cannabis campaign is a waste of resources and believes government officials would be better off decriminalizing marijuana and spending the cash to help wine growers in places like Napa and Sonoma grow quality pot that can be sold at a fair price.
