Vail, CO (WFN) -- The town of Vail, Colorado, has found a way to put a lid on the theft of their manhole covers by turning the lids into manhole cover jewlery. Vail jewelers have just released a collection which includes replicas of the resort town's famed manhole cover in the form of rings. Spokeswoman Suzanne Silverthorn says the idea of starting a manhole cover collection came two years ago when actual manhole covers were being stolen off the street because of their unique and beautiful design. The design consists of a "V" logo, as well as the founding date and elevation of the town. Silverthorn says the stolen manhole covers are "probably in some kid's dorm room" and adds there has been a reduction in the amount of manhole covers stolen since the first jewelry collection came out in 2002. Silverthorn says the next edition to the collection will be a trailer hitch plug.
