Nashville, TN (WFN) -- He's been dead for nearly 30 years, but Elvis is still the King when it comes to singing moves. That's the opinion of Nashville vocal coach Renee Grant-Williams, who teaches her students how to sing using physical techniques cribbed from the King. She says the singer's sexy hip-swiveling moves were actually instinct-driven postures which made his voice even better. For instance, when Elvis shook his torso, he was creating the ideal environment for sound to resonate through his body. Even Elvis' lip-curling had an effect on his singing, driving the sound to bounce off a "sweet spot" on his teeth and pick up resonance from the other cavities of his body. Some of the students who've learned the Elvis method from Grant-Williams include country star Tim McGraw, who responded to her instruction by drawling, "Thank you, ma'am. Thankyouverymuch." She also devotes a chapter to Elvis-inspired moves in her book, "Voice Power: Using Your Voice to Captivate, Persuade and Command Attention" (AMACOM).
