Kapalua, HI (WFN) -- Wine will be flowing more than lava this week in Kapalua, Hawaii. The resort town's annual Wine And Food Festival begins Thursday (Jul. 8) with viticulture vultures gathering to cook up new trends in taste and serve them to foodies from around the world. Hawaii may not be a major grape-growing area, but it's ground zero for a long-debated question among wine lovers: Which wine goes best with Asian food? Fred Dame, the shindig's master sommelier, says the complexities of Asian food and wine go beyond mere red or white and focus as much on texture. Asian food isn't the only reason wine whizzes like Dame enjoy Kapalua. He says champagne tastes different depending on altitude and wants to sample bottles both at sea level and at 10,000 feet atop the Haleakala volcano a few miles away.
