New York, NY -- A battle of the bulge is shaping up between New York and Boston baseball fans.

Yesterday (Jun. 30), nine of New York's fattest baseball fans met at an L.A. Weight Loss Center in New York to put their guts on the line and slim down in a competition against nine Boston blubber-butts.

The New York heavyweights were hand-selected by Yankees baseball announcer John Sterling, who took off roughly 30 pounds over the past year and now wants to help out his listeners.

New York's team consists of eight women and one man, who want to lose between 20 to 80 pounds each from now until the end of the baseball season.

They'll be judged against the Boston team, which organizers say will be picked in the coming weeks, and whichever team loses the most fat will win bragging rights and, hopefully, smaller waistlines.
