London, England (WFN) -- Cycling may not be the top sport in America, but the man who is known as "The Voice of Cycling" sure is popular. Broadcaster Phil Liggett, who has covered The Tour de France for English-speaking audiences since 1973, says he gets recognized all over the U.S. In his words, "Everybody recognizes my voice. It's fantastic! I love it!" Liggett recalls one time he was in New York's Central Park and a bunch of hip-hoppers came up to him and said, "Hey, you're the guy with the voice. Cool!" Then there was the driver on Seventh Avenue who saw him and yelled out the window of his car, "Phil Liggett, huh? Good job on The Tour de France." The recognition couldn't make Liggett happier because, as he puts, "My goal is to bring the layman into the sport." He will begin his coverage of this year's Tour July 3 on the Outdoor Life Network.
