Los Angeles, CA (WFN) -- Frank Zappa died in 1993 but his recordings should be living on for quite a while, thanks to his family. This year marks the 40th anniversary that the rock legend formed his band, The Mothers of Invention and his widow wants to celebrate by "opening the vault" to her husband's recording catalog. Gail Zappa, who runs Barking Pumpkin Records, says there are currently 40 separate projects in various stages of completion. One of the first releases is a new CD, "Joe's Corsage," that was officially released on Mother's Day. It's a collection of demo recordings made before the Mothers were signed. Zappa says they were never supposed to be officially released, but she decided to because they were personal favorites of Joe Travers, the recording engineer handling the musical archiving. Other noteworthy Zappa projects include a documentary film about "Frank the composer" that she promises will "reveal some things people selected all along."
