|
Eureka, CA -- Johnny Cash and his wife, June Carter Cash, could soon get a stamp of approval from the U.S. Postal Service if a woman in Eureka, California, has her way. Former bartender Cathy Malfatti is devoting her time and energy to a campaign designed to get the U.S. Post Office to issue a stamp honoring the late country music couple. Usually, a celebrity has to be dead at least ten years before a stamp is issued, but Malfetti figures there's enough support to get the Cashes commemorated sooner than that. The campaign has just begun but Malfetti is already getting support words from country music luminaries like Kris Kristofferson and Merle Kilgore, who co-wrote the Cash classic, "Ring Of Fire," with June Carter Cash. Malfetti has high hopes because she organized a similar campaign 12 years ago for Hank Williams and, as she puts it, "I got that one approved within a year." She's asking Cash fans to show their support by sending pro-stamp postcards to her at P.O. Box 3443, Eureka, CA; 95502
