| 2004-06-17 - Weird News Wireless Flash News Melissa Manchester Helps Diana De Garmo 'Cry Out Loud' | ||
|
Los Angeles, CA (WFN) -- "American Idol" runner-up Diana DeGarmo had her first professional recording session this past weekend where she had a little help from a seasoned veteran. DeGarmo recorded the Melissa Manchester hit, "Don't Cry Out Loud," and Manchester herself was on hand to help out the 16-year-old singer. Manchester says the song has a sophisticated storyline and she "had lived quite a bit more" than DeGarmo when she originally recorded the song. In her words, "A 16-year-old has a limited amount of angst so I had to explain it in ways she'd understand because singing is storytelling." Manchester says she immediately noticed a difference in DeGarmo's performance after their talk but that may have been due to the advice she gave about what not to do: 'Don't ever let them press the record button until you're ready to sing."
