Los Angeles, CA (WFN) -- The self-help craze is getting slammed in a new satirical guide called "The Self-Destruction Handbook" (Three Rivers Press). The book contains eight steps to "self-hurt," including instructions on how to become an alcoholic, the joys of anorexia and a chapter entitled, "Condoms Are For Suckers." Co-author Adam Wasson was inspired to write the degrading guide after seeing a TV ad that blamed drug users for terrorism. In his words, "It was insane! I needed to attack that hypocrisy." His fellow author Jessica Stamen jokes that she came on board because, "Like any good self-destructor, Adam needed an enabler." The two admit the tips in the book are based on their own experiences, including Adam's history of sabotaging relationships and Jessica's yo-yo dieting. But the deeper message, they say, is one of acceptance. In Adam's words, "Self-help makes people feel bad about themselves. This is about loving yourself the way you are."
