Copenhagen, Denmark -- Americans are patriotic on July 4th but, this year, they're going to be "Presley-otic" the very next day. July 5th marks the 50th anniversary of Elvis Presley's first professional recording session, when he recorded "That's All Right, Mama" -- his first hit -- in Sun Studios in Memphis, Tennessee. The recording of that song is considered ground zero for Elvis fans, such as Danish Presley historian Ernst Jorgensen. But "That's All Right" wasn't the first song Presley tried to record at the session. The King tried slow ballads "a la" Dean Martin, and producer Sam Phillips almost considered the session a disaster. That is, until the future King started goofing around on an old blues tune with bandmates Scotty Moore and Bill Black between breaks and Phillips decided to record it. As the saying goes, the rest is history. Those first moments of the King have just been released on a new CD, "Elvis At Sun," which chronologically documents that first session. In Jorgensen's words, "You can hear Elvis invent himself in front of your ears."
