Los Angeles, CA (WFN) -- Picking up a scrap of paper from the podium where President George W. Bush just gave a speech doesn't sound like a crime -- but don't tell that to comedian George Lopez. In his new autobiography, "Why You Crying?" (Touchstone Books), the sitcom star relates a story about the time the Secret Service nabbed him for stealing a speech from Dubya. Lopez had just performed at a star-studded concert at the Ford Theater in Washington, D.C., when the Prez came up on stage and read a speech thanking the performers. Thinking no one was looking, Lopez snagged the speech as a keepsake after Bush left the podium. Only moments later, the event bandleader told him "The White House is on to you, man," and sure enough, a Secret Service agent approached him and asked for the speech, which had to be placed in the Presidential Archives. Lopez asked the guy how they fingered him and he said they'd reviewed the video of the event, catching him in the act. However, the agent admitted that before the discovery was made, he'd bet the culprit was "Knots Landing "actress Michele Lee.
