Seoul, Korea (WFN) -- Patriotism is going out the door for Korea's national dish of kimchi -- a mix of fermented cabbage, garlic and other vegetables. Earlier this week, the National Agricultural Cooperative Federation revealed that high demand and low supply has forced Korean consumers to seek kimchi made in other countries. Aliza Rosenberg at the Korean National Tourism Organization offices in Los Angeles says the price of Korean cabbage is to blame and claims it costs less green to make kimchi in China. Higher import numbers don't necessarily mean Koreans are giving up their roots. Rosenberg says most Koreans prefer to make their own kimchi rather than buy it in the store. Even if they do buy it, the Chinese kimchi is made in the Korean way, so Koreans won't likely notice the difference. There's also little concern that the lack of homegrown kimchi will affect tourism to Korea or the annual kimchi festivals because they'll serve 100 percent Korean-made kimchi.
