Los Angeles, CA (WFN) -- They say you can't go home again, but actress Samantha Mathis is going to try -- cinematically, that is.

Mathis is best-known for her role as Christian Slater's girlfriend in the 1990 cult film, "Pump Up The Volume," and she will be playing an older version of the character in an upcoming film, "Kids In America."

Shooting starts next week for the film, which is set in a high school.

Mathis says the director of the indie movie is an old friend who "thought it would be good to reference "Pump Up The Volume" by having me a play a parent."

Folks expecting a sequel to the film better not hold their breath - Mathis is just doing a cameo role and Slater isn't even in the film.

No release date is set but Mathis will soon be seen on the small screen in the TNT version of "Salem's Lot," which premieres June 20.
