Los Angeles, CA (WFN) -- June 1 marks the 78th anniversary of Marilyn Monroe's birth and while some fans might visit her grave at Westwood Cemetery in Los Angeles, one travel writer prefers to visit where she dyed -- her hair. Chris Epting is the author of "Marilyn Monroe Dyed Here" (Santa Monica Press), which compiles all sorts of offbeat historical landmarks. One of his favorites is a former hair salon on Hollywood Boulevard, which is where she first dyed her hair in 1945 and went from being a brunette to a famous blonde bombshells. Another memorable Monroe sight is just five blocks away -- it's the swimming pool at the Roosevelt Hotel where she posed for her first photo shoot, an ad for suntan lotion. Not every Monroe sight in Hollywood is as positive. There's an apartment on Waring Drive where her hubby, Joe DiMaggio, broke in with a detective in 1954 because he feared she was cheating. Turns out he had the wrong house -- Epting says Marilyn was two doors down and managed to escape the commotion.
