Washington (WFN) -- The World's Largest Rocket Contest is set for launch this Saturday (May 22). It's the number of middle school and high school kids who participate in the contest that make it the world's largest, not the size of the rockets. Seven hundred students are expected to participate. The Aerospace Industries Association and the National Aeronautics and Space Administration held the contest last year as a one-time event honoring the 100th Anniversary of Flight, but it was so popular they've decided to make it an annual competition. Students are required to blast their rocket to exactly 1,250 feet in height, then release a payload of two eggs that must descend back to earth without breaking. J.P. Stevens, Vice President of Special Projects for the AIA, believes the contest is so popular because there's a good prize package and a lot of kids enjoy rocketry. The top ten teams at the event will share the prize of $60,000.
