Los Angeles, CA -- "Las Vegas" cast member Vanessa Marcil spends the day surrounded by slot machines and blackjack tables but still manages to avoid becoming a casino cash cow.

Marcil says she loves to watch people play cards and enjoys blackjack once in a while. Still, she admits that she prefers "gambling with other's people's money" and says she'd rather "blow on someone else's dice" than blow her own wad.

But that doesn't mean Marcil doesn't take gambles. She's stepping out from her acting roles to host the 31st Annual Daytime Emmy Awards on NBC this Friday (May 21).

Marcil says the role is a challenge because she's not a comedian or a TV host but figures what she lacks in one liners, she makes up in passion for daytime television, both as a participant and a fan.

In her words, "You can learn everything just by watching Dr. Phil or Oprah."
