| 2004-05-07 - Weird News Wireless Flash News Mantras For Mucus: Can Yoga Beat Allergies? | ||
|
Berkeley, CA -- Here's some bad news for pharmaceutical companies: Some doctors are prescribing yoga for their patients who suffer from allergies. It's "snot" a joke. According to a report in the June issue of "Yoga Journal," chanting mantras may help you with your mucus because the practice of yoga helps strengthen your immune system and increase your oxygen intake. Yoga teachers recommend both physical moves and breathing techniques to fight the itchy eyes and runny noses. Patients find some moves particularly helpful for draining the sinuses, such as Shoulderstand, where you lie on your back and raise your legs until they are vertical. The overall goal of a yoga prescription for allergies is to make your body strong enough to fight off allergens, which is exactly what happened to Los Angeles law student Jessica Levinson. She tells the magazine she turned to yoga after a lifetime of allergies and now she's improved so much that she doesn't need to take allergy pills at all.
