Mojito, NJ (WFN) -- The town of Richland, New Jersey -- population, 8,000 -- is renaming itself Mojito, New Jersey, for one month. The town council voted to change its name after being approached by the Bacardi rum company to honor May as the month of the mojito, after the Cuban cocktail which has rum, club soda, simple syrup, lime and mint leaves in it. Mojito's mayor, Chuck Chiarello, says the town has put up a new sign that reads "Welcome to Mojito, New Jersey." The extra incentive was $5,000 from Bacardi which Mayor Chuck says will be applied to the town's recreation program. A Bacardi spokesman says it makes sense to recruit Richland to change its name rather than a big city like Miami -- which is where Bacardi is headquartered -- because the company gets much of its mint from Dalponte Farms in the town. Bacardi calls the drink the "margarita for the new millennium."
