Los Angeles, CA -- Would you believe that in his 67 years as a cartoon star, Daffy Duck has never been nominated for an award in TV, film or music? That is, until now: The man who provides the voice for the saliva-spattering Looney Tunes star is up for an Emmy Award as the "Outstanding Performer in an Animated Program." Joe Alaskey says the nod is "very validating" since he's been doing Daffy for 16 years, but also humbling since his mentor and predecessor, Mel Blanc, was never nominated for an acting award. The competition will be stiff: Alaskey is up against big voices like Nancy Cartwright, Walter Cronkite and the late John Ritter, who is nominated for his work as "Clifford, the Big Red Dog" on PBS. If he wins, Alaskey says Daffy will definitely show up in his acceptance speech, but it will be impossible to thank all the people who helped him get there. For that reason, the actor jokes he's going to print all their names out on a piece of paper and hold that up instead of giving a speech.
