New York, NY (WFN) -- The funniest details can affect the price of a work of fine art -- including the number of apples in a still life. According to Kelly Devine Thomas of "ARTNews" magazine, experts say a Cezanne painting depicting 15 apples is worth more than one which only shows three. In the case of the painter's still lifes, one of his works with three apples fetched $8 million, while a 15-apple portrait sold for $60 million. The experts Thomas talked to also say horizontal paintings sell for more than vertical ones and nudity always brings in more bucks than modesty. Thomas says the factors may seem frivolous for fine art, but even at that level of art collecting, the buyers still prefer to own something that is pleasant to look at. She adds that the more recognizable the piece is, the more desirable it is -- which also increases the cost.
