|
West Hollywood, CA (WFN) -- San Francisco is getting all the attention for gay weddings but West Hollywood should make a name for itself come June. The gay mecca of Los Angeles city plans to hold its first official gay wedding on June 1, and organizers are planning an event worthy of the showbiz center. Between 50 and 100 couples are expected to tie the knot in what is expected to be a true "gay-la," with West Hollywood mayor John Duran personally officiating the nuptials. Comedian Margaret Cho will also preside over the ceremony, which is taking place in the Abbey, a popular gay bar built to resemble an old church. Gay marriages aren't legal in California but these couples do have an advantage over others: They don't have to hire a photographer because the Sundance Channel is documenting the event for posterity.
