Arlington, VA (WFN) -- Now that spring has sprung, a few other back and neck related injuries are also springing up. This is the time of year when chiropractors begin seeing patients with injuries due to exercising while carrying their babies. Jerome McAndrews, chiropractor and national spokesman for the American Chiropractic Association, warns parents and babies are at risk when the mother or father goes for a jog while pushing a stroller or bike ride while carrying junior. McAndrews says babies being pushed or in carriers can suffer neck injuries if the stroller or bike runs over uneven pavement. He says the baby will bounce and its neck will get jerked because its head is so heavy. Parents are also at risk for injury if jog hunched over while pushing the carriage because they will be compressing the joints of the spine and then adding impact while running. McAndrews sums up the risk by saying, "Nature didn't make baby carriages."
