Rosemont, IL (WFN) -- Here's proof April is the cruelest month: It's been declared National Facial Protection Month by the American Association of Oral Maxillofacial Surgeons. The organization is hoping to take a bite out of the number of oral and facial injuries by convincing consumers to wear head gear and mouth guards. Those dental-saving devices are standard in many sporting activities but the face doctors are also warning spectators they are at risk of being hit by baseballs, golf balls and hockey pucks during games. Organization spokeswoman Marquita Hynes admits wearing helmets everywhere may be hard for some weekend athletes to swallow but hopes they use their heads. Still, she says if the mouthy surgeons can't influence the public to use a common-sense approach to avoiding head injuries, they may pursue legislation to promote the proper use of headgear.
