Los Angeles, CA -- It's a dirty job playing a saloon girl on the HBO western "Deadwood," from the dust-covered costumes to the four-letter-word-spiked dialogue.

But someone has to do it, and that someone is Irish-born actress Paula Malcomson, who plays the town's top prostitute, Trixie.

The show is getting a reputation for its salty-talking characters, but Malcomson says their cussing is nothing compared to the way she and her co-stars talk once the cameras are turned off.

"For me, its an Irish thing," she laughs.

The uncomfortable corsets and made-up bruises aren't as fun, however. Malcomson spends the first few episodes nursing bruises from a beating, and had to keep the end of a baby pacifier stuffed up her nose to mimic swelling.

Even worse, she says the rubber tip flew out of her nose during one take.

Despite the hardships, Malcomson loves playing the town tramp, and hopes the series gets picked up for another season.
