For instance, e-mail Franklin when she's out of the office and her computer auto-responds back: "Some very nice men in white coats came and said they wanted to show me my new padded office" or "I'm out of the office having my medications adjusted."

Franklin started her offbeat auto-responds as a way to let off corporate steam but says they became a hit among colleagues, who forwarded them to friends.

Once she realized she was a cult hit, Franklin created a website, mirthquakes.com, that features more than 75 wacky auto-messages including her favorite: "I'm in a meeting. And you're not. Worry about it. That will give you something to do until I return."
