St. Louis, MO (WFN) -- Cedric The Entertainer has a new role: Hometown hero. The "Barbershop" star is pitching in for his hometown of St. Louis by hosting an upcoming Travel Channel special about the Gateway City. The April 11 program takes viewers to Cedric's old neighborhood in Berkeley, Missouri, where the funnyman reveals that his first job after college was the not-so-humorous position of an insurance claims adjuster. But he soon found a new career after jumping on stage at the local Funny Bone comedy club, where folks like Jay Leno and Damon Wayans have yukked it up. On the show, Cedric shares some of his other "favorite places to hang and secret spots to kick it," including his favorite restaurant: the Goody Goody diner. He describes the place as a "microcosm of St. Louis" thanks to a clientele that ranges from preachers and politicians to beauticians. Finally, Cedric says he has fond memories of the posh Chase Park Plaza Hotel downtown, which is where Joe Garagiola announced wrestling matches from the 1950s-1970s.
