Muscle Shoals, AL (WFN) -- Tales from the United States Civil War are turning out to be beautiful music for top country singers. Ricky Skaggs, Randy Travis, Collin Raye, and Lee Ann Womack are all contributors to "America Will Always Stand," a new CD based on real-life stories from the Civil War. One song is based on the life of General Robert E. Lee and a ditty called "All The Daddies" is based on a real letter that General Stonewall Jackson wrote to a young woman promising that her Daddy would come home from the war alive. CD producer Ron Maxwell says the album is intended to evoke, not recreate, the music of the 1860s so, in his words, "it's better for a road trip than a Civil War reenactment." He should know. Maxwell directed the Civil War epics "Gettysburg" and "Gods And Generals" and plans to direct a third film set in the era, "The Last Full Measure." "America Will Always Stand" will be released in May and, if successful, Maxwell plans a whole a series of Civil War CDs in all genres of music.
