Rockport, MA (WFN) -- Yoga is supposed to make you feel happy, but some folks find themselves crying like babies when they're twisting and stretching. It's not because they're in pain: Yoga practitioner and writer Donna Raskin says a surprising number of folks get emotional on the mat because yoga opens them up spiritually as well as physically. Often, people don't understand why the waterworks come on, but it usually traces back to some earlier emotional pain. Raskin says these breakthroughs are normal, and if one happens to you, you shouldn't panic. Instead, let yourself cry it all out, and leave the class if you're concerned your boo-hoos are becoming a bother to others. In the end, crying may actually help yoga lovers become happier because it clears away obstacles that, as Raskin says,"hold you back from experiencing the serenity of yoga." She elaborates on the topic in the April issue of "Yoga Journal."
