Poway, CA (WFN) -- Many a young woman has suffered the agony of always being a bridesmaid, never a bride.

Now, one San Diego single has taken her many experiences of walking down the aisle in a candy-colored dress and turned them into a novel.

Whitney Lyles, author of the romantic comedy "Always A Bridesmaid" (Berkley), has stood up as a bridal attendant four times -- and at the tender age of 27 will be doing the job twice more in the next few months.

She says the atmosphere of a wedding is ripe for humorous situations, but admits moments in her book -- such as the bride who rode down the aisle on a horse -- came from her imagination, not her real life experiences.

After four trips down Bridesmaid Boulevard, Lyles has a key piece of advice for other ladies who are asked to tread that path: Just say "no" to group fittings with the other bridesmaids.

She says too often she's seen women get upset when they compare their measurements.
