Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic (WFN) -- Tourism officials in the Dominican Republic are feeling like a conjoined twin whose other half has just committed a major crime. The Caribbean nation shares a border with Haiti -- which is currently suffering some major political turmoil and a possible political coup. Despite all the hassles in Haiti, Dominican Republic tourism official Faid Meder says vacationers considering a trip to his homeland need not worry. He says there's no chance the unrest will spoil tourists' rest because, in his words, "We have a secure borderline and a powerful army." Meder thinks his country is still a good family destination right now and promises "no problems," but maintains summer is the best time to visit.
