East Hanover, NJ (WFN) -- You can learn a lot about a person just by watching them eat an Oreo.

At least, that's what the folks who make the creme-filled chocolate cookies claim based on the results of a recent survey.

The poll shows folks who dunk their Oreos (about 20 percent of those polled) are more likely to be Republicans, live in the Northeast and make large sums of money.

Twisters, who rip the top layer off the cookie to get at the cream filling, make up 32 percent of the population and tend to be Democrats from the West Coast.

In addition, 45 percent bite their Oreos, and they're usually Southerners who identify themselves as "independents."

Some other stats...

-- 80 percent of "biters" take 2-3 nibbles to finish off a cookie, but 9 percent gobble it in one bite.

-- 54 percent of "twisters" twist the cookie counterclockwise and 66 percent scrape the cream with their top teeth.

-- Finally, 87 percent of "dunkers" dip their cookies in milk while 9 percent use coffee or tea.
