New York, NY (WFN) -- America is hung up on the bad vocal stylings of "American Idol" wannabe William Hung but he's just one of many bad singers who've struck a chord with Americans. Pop culture expert Mario Almonte says long before Hung, Alfalfa from the "Little Rascals" used to provoke shrieks of laughter every time he shrieked, "I'm the barber of Seville." Meanwhile, tuneless troubadour Tiny Tim sang "Tiptoe Through The Tulips" in a sickly falsetto and became so famous he got married on the "Tonight Show." Hung now has a recording deal but Almonte says he has a way to go before he tops the most successful bad singer of all-time: Mrs Elva Miller, who sold more than 200,000 records in a single year despite being unable to hold a tune in a truck bed. But if Hung does become as big as Mrs. Miller, Almonte warns he'll have to learn to "...accept backhanded adulation graciously."
