Charlotte, NC (WFN) -- Modern etiquette is about more than place settings -- you also have to know the polite distance to stand away from someone while you're using a cell phone. An organization called the National League of Cotillions is answering those questions about digital manners in a new volume, "The Official Book of Electronic Etiquette" (Penmark Publishing). Manners mavens Anne Colvin Winters and Charles Anthony Winters say proper etiquette requires you stand out of earshot when making a call on a cell phone -- at least ten to 15 feet away. And while you're at an ATM, don't think it rude to ask the person behind you to back off if they're standing too close. The Winters say it's polite to refrain from using Call Waiting on your phone unless you're expecting an important call, and one should always cease playing video games when a guest arrives in your home. Finally, when using the office copy machine, limit yourself to 25 copies at a time.
