Chicago, IL (WFN) -- For the majority of Americans, "desktop dining" has become a part of corporate culture, but another culture of the bacterial kind is growing with the practice of eating lunch at the desk. According to the American Dietetic Association, the most popular brown bag options are meat and cheese sandwiches; leftovers; and salads; all of which can spoil if not properly refrigerated. Even worse: 30 percent of folks who are brown bagging it don't store the food in the refrigerator at work and 80 percent let their lunch sit out for more than three hours before eating. Also, 70 percent of offices have food bought for the entire office at least once a week, but 68 percent of these "shared foods" sit out for more than two hours until they are all eaten. Now that desktop dining is here to stay, the ADA recommends keeping all perishable foods in a refrigerator; heating leftovers to 165 degrees Fahrenheit; and washing your hands after digging into "desktop dishes."
