| 2004-02-02 - Weird News Wireless Flash News Fire Fighter Chefs Turn Up The Heat | ||
|
New York, NY (WFN) -- Those presidential primaries are hot competitions but not as heated as the one taking place between some fire fighting chefs in New York. Tomorrow (Feb. 3), the National Cook And Ladder Competition will start cooking with ten firehouse cooks from across America engaging in a fiery competition for a $10,000 grand prize. Adding to the heated nature to the event: All of the dishes must contain some form of hot sauce -- including dessert. One of the hottest chefs in this year's event is Fort Worth, Texas, fire fighter Wes Sheffield. He was a finalist in the last competition thanks to his tortilla soup and is a hot property this year based on his bow-tie pasta with chipotle cream sauce. He says that firefighters are competitive by nature but figures he had an advantage to finding unique ways to use hot sauce because "the nearest store to the firehouse is a Mexican grocery."
