Berkeley, CA (WFN) -- A new Indian comic book superheroine is currying favor with Indians and comic fans. The new series "Bombaby," is designed in the style of 1960s Bollywood movies, and features Sangeeta Mukerjee, the daughter of well-to-do parents who is facing a possible arranged marriage. The Hindu heroine discovers her superheroine status during an out-of-body experience when she learns she's the reincarnation of India's ancient protector, the Goddess of Mumbai. Sangeeta hasn't figured out all her superpowers yet, but creator Antony Mazzotta says that over time she'll develop second sight from her third eye and will be able to entrance evil-doers with her hypnotic voice. She'll also do battle with archenemies like "Boss Nag," a crime boss who runs the underworld of Bombay and holds a firm grip over the Bollywood film industry. This is Mazzotta's first published comic book, and although he isn't Indian, he developed the series from a long-standing love of the Indian culture.
